Sunday 20 - Saturday 26 March 2005

Theme: Building and Breaking Walls - exploring the boundaries we make for ourselves and for others in our spiritual, everyday and political lives.

The EMEYF Spring Gathering will take place from Sunday 20th to Saturday 26th March 2005 in the Netherlands. All young adult F/friends are welcome (aged 18-35).

The Gathering will explore the theme "Building and Breaking Walls". Within this theme we will explore the boundaries we make for ourselves and for others in our spiritual, everyday and political lives, discovering at the same time that the walls we create do not always separate us but can sometimes lead to mutual understanding. Let's share our authenticity, let's be open to others' experiences, let's explore different issues in a welcoming and cheerful multicultural surrounding.

Things people can expect during our time together on this theme are a sense of community with a space for reflection, relaxation and fun as well as the music and arts, workshops and interesting speakers at the gathering. Throughout the theme spiritual and social interests will be balanced as much as thought and relaxation. Through this concept we will try to give a good overview of the theme and what connects us through and with it.

In 2005, the EMEYF Spring Gathering can also be seen as a regional gathering of the upcoming (August 2005) World Gathering of Young Friends in Lancaster, UK. During the week we will explore the different branches of world Quakerism and the walls that we may perceive or build between them.

As the Spring Gathering is open to young friends from throughout Europe and the Middle East, its location is changed from year to year, so that everyone can have the privilege to participate. This year the Spring Gathering is taking place in the Netherlands, on a farm called Kindergoed (in the village of Ermelo). The farm is not too far from a railway station, without being far from nature and without being in the midst of the bustling noise of civilisation.

The week will cost a maximum of €140, depending on the number of participants - more young friends will increase fun and at the same time decrease costs - the more the merrier! Young friends who would have difficulty participating due to cost are encouraged to approach their Monthly or Yearly Meeting for assistance, or to contact the Spring Gathering organisers for ideas for bursary support.

Application forms and practical information about the Spring Gathering (travel directions etc) will follow by early 2005 - please add yourself to the EMEYF e-mail list or contact the Planning Committee and we will send you the information when it is available.
